Conrad Hotels and Resorts is getting a second property in Mexico with the redesign of the former La Tranquila Resort in Punta Mita. Following a multi-million dollar investment, the re-imagined 324-key resort property will welcome guests to an exclusive tropical oasis. Hilton, Conrad’s parent company, is currently working on around 25 projects in Mexico including the Waldorf Astoria and Hilton Cancun on the Mexican Caribbean coast, which are also being designed by SB Architects.
The design will make use of Punta de Mita’s tropical scenery and every guestroom and suite will feature unobstructed views of the ocean just steps away. As the brand’s second property in Mexico, Conrad Playa Mita will embody modern luxury in one of the world’s most sought-after destinations. The new Conrad will also feature a Greg Norman signature 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, pool and spa and a wide array of dining options.
Co-developers, HRV Hotel Partners, and Contact Development Company, together with a world-class international design team comprised of SB Architects, EDSA, Arquitectura de Interiores and Grupo Dovela, have envisioned a modern design to create a destination that highlights and enhances the natural beauty of the surrounding area. A tranquil refuge from Mexico City’s energetic pace, Conrad Playa Mita beckons with serene landscapes and uninhabited isles. A journey to this resort captivates the soul with stunning natural beauty and pure refinement, connecting guests with nature, self and time. Local artwork and world-renowned architecture are integrated with well-appointed amenities to create a true sense of barefoot resort elegance that embraces the natural splendors of an unspoiled sanctuary with the refined pampering, bespoke services and unwavering attention to detail of a luxury destination. The design elements will incorporate the lush tropical landscape, open corridors, and a contemporary and coastal décor. All guestrooms and suites will be steps from one of the finest beaches in Riviera Nayarit and will have unobstructed views the ocean.
Conrad Playa Mita will also serve as a destination for group travel with more than 45,000 square feet of combined function space, including:
- More than 30,000 square feet of premium outdoor event space with expansive beach frontage
- 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art ballroom
- 3,000 square feet of breakout rooms, each with ample pre-function terraces
With modern expressions of architectural sophistication, the resort exemplifies the serene and sensual landscape – from the volcanic hills of Jalisco, the tropical flora and fauna and peyote cacti, to sea life and coral vines. Our vision was to create a development that exists in harmony with nature – a development that harnesses the essence of the site and enhances the experience of the environment for each person living, working or visiting the property.
Charged with the power of memory and evocative symbolism, the resort was crafted to capture the historical essence and ambiance of Punta de Mita as well as Huichol traditions. The Huichols, a Native Indian tribe indigenous to the remote Sierra Madre Mountains east of Puerto Vallarta, have a strong connection to the area which has been considered a place for spiritual renewal for centuries. Joyously colorful, intricate and striking, Mexican textiles and art have for years seduced travelers, artists, and even haute couture. Incorporated within our design are mandalas – round representations with sacred geometry figures and patterns – symbolizing the entrance to the spiritual world. In every motif there lies a story, a statement and a valued part of the local Mexican identity.
