Mission Hills Haikou Receives Award for Sustainability

Mission Hills Haikou, on China’s Hainan Island, is one of the world’s largest golf resorts. The development can now add sustainable leader to its resume. The project is now GEO Certified by the  Golf Environment Organization (GEO).

The GEO Certified program is administered by the highly regarded, not-for-profit Golf Environmental Organization. Based in Scotland, the Golf Environmental Organization is committed to making golf a leader in sustainable sport and business.  Certification is awarded following an independent assessment of sustainability. Mission Hills Haikou is the largest project to receive this certification to date.

Hainan Island has built a reputation for being China’s resort and sport capital. Mission Hills Haikou is home to 10 golf courses and hosts numerous professional and amateur events, includintgthe 2014 World Celebrity Pr0-Am Tournament – the world’s first carbon-neutral sporting event. (Proceeds from the event were donated to the World Wildlife Fund.)

The Mission Hills Group, which developed and runs Mission Hills Haikou, has made managing natural resources a priority. SB Architects worked with The Mission Hills Group to design Lavastone at Mission Hills Haikou, and the Volcanic Mineral Springs and Spa, the largest spa complex in the world.
