Andaz San Diego

In the heart of San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, the historic but dilapidated Maryland Hotel has been transformed into a chic, award-winning boutique hotel. Now one of the downtown’s hottest properties, the existing six-story structure was completely redesigned, with the goal of creating not only a hip downtown hotel, but a social destination for local visitors. An indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar define the property's prominent corner location on the ground floor, while a more private bar and lounge at the other end of this floor lead, via a circular stair, to a basement-level nightclub. A spectacular roof deck with 360º views of the city houses a pool, bar, cabanas and indoor/outdoor function area. All of the rooms and suites are arranged to overlook either the street life below, or one of two interior open-air atrium spaces. In a rubix cube of architectural achievement, the transparent new interior spaces are layered and intertwined to create a fascinating, yet highly efficient, use of space.
