Set in the foothills of the McCullough mountain range outside of Las Vegas, the exclusive residential development of Ascaya sits nearly 1,000 feet off the valley floor. A total of 313 lots have been carved out of the volcanic rock, each with expansive views of the city below. To showcase the design possibilities in this rarified desert environment, New World Development chose five lots and tapped five of the country’s leading architecture firms to create one-of-a-kind custom homes. Drawing upon their extensive resort design experience, the SB Architects’ team approached the project as a private resort, creating not only a house, but a lifestyle experience. The clean-lined, desert modern design is composed as a series of indoor/outdoor spaces, with expanses of glass that disappear to create numerous arrangements of the flexible space. The simple massing and horizontal lines are tempered by rich, earthy textures of stone, rammed earth, wood and corten steel.
