The venerable Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage re-opens today after a complete renovation and expansion. Designed by SB Architects, the resort sits on a plateau 650 feet above the Coachella Valley, and will open with 244 resort rooms and suites, a luxury spa, more than 30,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space and destination dining with sweeping views of the valley below. Surrounded by rugged mountains and home to more than 100 golf courses, this valley has long been a favorite escape of Hollywood moguls and has been called “the playground of presidents.”
The goal for the re-design was to maintain the resort’s sense of glamour, while breathing new life into the property with a design that draws its inspiration directly from the inherent beauty of the surrounding desert. Throughout the resort, a new emphasis on natural colors and tactile materials, and a renewed focus on indoor/outdoor living, create a seamless transition between the hotel and its surroundings, and present a stylized, sophisticated interpretation of the desert environment. The design team for this magnificent project includes landscape architects EDSA, interior designers Wilson Associates and restaurant designers Engstrom Design Group.
